Features
Exterior
Big and brash, the boxy, angular 2016 Mercedes-Benz G Class stands out in any crowd. It is a design that has changed little since its introduction nearly 40 years ago, and only when necessary for safety functions. The aggressive front fascia offers an upright, squared-off take on Mercedes-Benz’s corporate grille, and can be made to look more menacing with the available stainless steel brush guard. Bi-xenon headlamps light the way, helping to illuminate even the darkest night, while heated power-folding mirrors keep your visibility clear to the rear. A power tilt-and-slide steel sunroof lets in the sun or a cooling breeze in the winter. Sitting high, with great clearance, every G Class comes with stainless steel running boards to make it easier to get in and out of the cabin. Dual sidepipe exhausts add some aggression to the appearance. Offered in 21 standard colors, 15 designo colors, and four bright AMG Performance Studio colors, with seven different wheels available, the G Class is infinitely customizable.
Interior
As rugged as the exterior is, the interior of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G Class counters it with some of the most luxurious materials available along with handcrafted finishing. Four different ranges of leather are offered, from standard leather to design Exclusive Nappa leather, with over a dozen style choices. These are paired with six interior trims, including wood-grain and carbon fiber. Ambient interior lighting bathes it all in a warm, luxurious glow. Opt for the standard headliner, or upgrade to a synthetic-suede headliner.
Beyond the materials used and the fine craftsmanship, the five-passenger G Class also provides the latest in comforts and conveniences. Front seats are 10-way power adjustable with multicontour and 3-position memory, and are heated as well as ventilated – rear outboard seats are also heated, to combat New York’s cold winters. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard, as are illuminated door sills that are helpful when it gets dark out. A multi-function steering wheel is available in numerous trims including wood and leather, or can be heated if you’d rather have added driving comfort.

Performance
Monstrous engines define the capabilities of the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G Class. It starts with the G550, equipped with a 416-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine that puts down 450 lb-ft of torque. Utilizing a seven-speed automatic, it is capable of accelerating the hefty vehicle to 60 miles per hour in only 5.8 seconds. If that’s not enough, two AMG options are offered. The first, the AMG G63, features a handcrafted twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V8 turning out 536 horsepower and 561 lb-ft of torque. Paired with an AMG-tuned seven-speed automatic, this drops acceleration time to 5.3 seconds. At the top of the range is the incredible AMG G65, featuring a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine that offers 621 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This engine drops the acceleration time for the three-ton truck down to 5.2 seconds. Performance is not just straight-line speed – all of these are capable of towing up to 7,000 pounds, while every G Class features a comprehensive permanent all-wheel drive system with a two-speed transfer case and three electromechanically lockable differentials, made to tackle any possible road or off-road surface you may face.
Safety
Designed to withstand military use, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz G Class is built to withstand collisions you may expect to see in war time – the roads around Massepequa should be no problem. Mercedes-Benz also realizes that it is a large vehicle with a massive presence, so it comes equipped with features aimed at protecting both the passengers inside as well as pedestrians and other drivers. This includes standard antilock disc brakes, four-wheel Electronic Traction System, and an Electronic Stability Program. The brakes are aided by adaptive braking technology that includes Predictive Brake Priming, Automatic Brake Drying, and emergency-sensing Brake Assist. Driver visibility and alertness is aided by Blind Spot Assist, a rearview camera, and parking assist all as standard.
