BlueTEC Technology

Diesel vehicles have long been immensely popular in Europe, and they are enjoying a resurgence in the United States. They are no longer the loud, dirty diesel of yesteryear – today’s diesel-powered vehicles run soft and strong, while providing fuel economy that is on par or better than many hybrid vehicles.

Leading the advances in diesel power is the company that originated the idea of using diesel in automobiles. Mercedes-Benz ushered in the diesel-powered automobile in 1936, with the introduction of the 260D. Even then, the diesel delivered great value, providing quality performance with better fuel economy than its fuel counterparts. Now, with the use of BlueTEC Clean Diesel technology, diesels can now offer more than ever before.

Mercedes Me Program

Mercedes-Benz has always been on the cutting edge of automotive technology. Whether it is for convenience, performance, safety, or entertainment, Mercedes has always been a leader. Now, Mercedes is introducing Mercedes me, a new platform aimed at making the Mercedes ownership experience more immersive and impressive.

What is Mercedes Me?

Mercedes me will allow drivers to connect to their vehicle and access services and information, all from a single website. They will be able to look at four different areas of their Mercedes-Benz vehicle:

  • They will be able to Connect with their vehicle, and be able to observe and explore their vehicle from an internet browser. This includes accessing the mbrace suite of services, reviewing telematics data, and viewing other electronically-accessed information regarding their Mercedes.
  • Mercedes me will help to Assist drivers by connecting them with nearby Mercedes-Benz dealerships, where they can schedule servicing and get answers to any questions they may have about their vehicle. It also will connect them to an assortment of vehicle support services, such as Product Concierge, Mercedes-Benz Accessories, and Digital Service Drive.
  • Using the Finance section, Mercedes-Benz customers can develop their relationship with Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. This will help to ring simplicity to their transactions and more transparency to financing.
  • The fourth area will provide editorials and features regarding the Mercedes lifestyle. With articles about the perks and benefits of being a Mercedes customer, along with notification of owners-only events and products, it is perfect for the owner who loves the lifestyle. All of this is meant to Inspire owners in their everyday lives.

What is the Difference between Owners Online, mbrace, and Me?

MercedesMe Program

While the three of them may seem the same, there are clear differences. mbrace is a system that joins your smartphone, computer, and car for added connectivity, focused on connecting the car to the outside world. Owners Online has been a part of the Mercedes ownership experience for years, an online portal that helped to keep Mercedes owners up to date on Mercedes specials, recommended Mercedes services, and tracked service history of the vehicle. It also allowed the owner to view a copy of their owners manual.

The Mercedes me platform is essentially an evolution of the Owners Online portal. It is more immersive, with increased content over Owners Online. It also provides real-time connection to the vehicle itself, where Owners Online had no direct connection to the vehicle. This make Mercedes me the most powerful tool for Mercedes owners to date.

What is the Availability of Me?

The beta version of Mercedes me was launched in August, and will continue to be updated throughout the year and into 2016. It is designed for Mercedes-Benz owners, and will be particularly beneficial for customers who own a vehicle that is from the model year of 2016 and into the future. That being said, it is open to the general public, including owners of older Mercedes vehicles which do not feature the connectivity of current vehicles, as well as non-Mercedes owners who are interested in the available content and tools.

At Mercedes-Benz of Massapequa, we have always enjoyed the forward thinking of the Mercedes company. The constant evolution of their vehicles and accompanying technology makes the company one of the most interesting and advanced car companies in the world, and we are pleased to represent them in the Babylon, Hicksville, and Islip area. Our staff is excited about the new Mercedes me platform, and we would be happy to walk you through the features – just stop by our showroom at 101 Sunrise Highway in Amityville and speak with one of our Mercedes professionals.

The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is coming off of a banner year that concluded with the model being named the 2015 World Car of the Year. So how does Mercedes follow up on being named the best vehicle in the world?

One of the best ways to top your successes is to provide buyers with even more variations, and this year’s C-Class line-up does just that. The 2016 C-Class will see the introduction of three new models:

  • Mercedes-Benz C300d 4MATIC: The C250 BlueTec model is discontinued for the 2016 model year, and will be replaced with this diesel-powered model. While the specifics have yet to be announced, it is expected to be similar to use the same engine found currently in the E250 Bluetec, a 2.1-liter turbodiesel that creates 195 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. It will have the same seven-speed transmission as the rest of the C-Class, and should be able to get 32 miles per gallon combined, or possibly even more. More information will come available closer to the expected February 2016 release date.
  • Mercedes-Benz C350e Hybrid: A plug-in hybrid vehicle, the C350e combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 60-kilowatt AC motor, for a combined output of 491 horsepower. The same seven-speed automatic transmission found in the other C-Class models has been adapted for use, allowing the car to drive under engine, power, electric power, or a combination. The hybrid control logic allows the driver to choose when the electric motor is in use – electric-only range is 19 miles, and charge time using the 240-volt fast-charge is only 90 minutes. It does have regenerative braking and can recharge using engine power though.
  • Mercedes C450 AMG Sport: The AMG Sport models have been a hit, providing Mercedes buyers the chance to have a taste of the AMG tuning without committing to the highly-powered AMG models. The C450 will be powered by a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6. This engine will have an output of 362 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque, less than the C63 but still enough to propel the car up to sixty miles per hour in under five seconds. The seven-speed automatic is similar to the one found in the rest of the non-AMG C-Class models, but with full manual control thanks to paddle shifters, as well as shift programs that have more in common with the C63 than the other C-Class models.

The C300 model continues for the 2016 year, available both as a rear-wheel drive vehicle as well as the four-wheel drive 4MATIC version. The AMG C63 and C63S are also continued. A few new packages have been added to the C-Class line-up to add to the personalization, including a Luxury Package and a Night Package. A Premium 2 package has also been added as an option package, and it includes heated seats, LED headlights, and the Burmester Premium Sound System. Some individual options have also been added, such as the heated steering wheel, and a new Cardinal Red interior will be available.

Both the C350e and C450 AMG Sport will be hitting the market in September of 2015, and you can expect Mercedes-Benz of Massapequa to be one of the first dealerships on Long Island to have models on hand for you to take a look at. As the leading Mercedes-Benz dealer in the Babylon, Hicksville and Islip are, we always have the latest Mercedes models, from these C-Class models to the numerous crossover and SUV options offered by recedes. Our sales staff can help you to understand all of the options available, and will make your drive to 101 Sunrise Highway in Amityville a worthwhile trip.

Apple Watch with Mercedes-Benz

One of the latest technology gizmos to make a splash is the Apple Watch. This wearable Apple product links with other Apple devices to allow the user to access information, messages, music, and more without having to take their smartphones out of their pockets. It provides instant information, right on your wrist, for a quick glance. Much of this information originates from phone-based apps, such as the soon-to-come Mercedes-Benz Companion App – available for both the Apple Watch, as well as for the iPhone.

This app provides seamless linking from the smartphone, to the watch, to the Mercedes-Benz COMAND Online system. This can potentially allow for a wide variety of functions.

  • Navigation – The confirmed, primary use of the app, a user can look for directions on their smartphone even before setting foot in the car. Once they have linked these directions through the watch, the app will sync with the in-car navigation for driving directions. When the user leaves the car, the directions will revert to the watch, allowing for seamless transition to walking paths. On top of that, you’ll never have to wonder where you parked – the watch will be able to provide walking directions back to the car.
  • Information – Yet another confirmed feature of the app, a vehicle owner will be able to access vehicle information through the app, regardless of where they are. This includes fuel levels, current range with fuel, maintenance codes, and the odometer reading. This allows the owner to keep an eye on their vehicle, even if another person is using it.
  • Security – Not a confirmed feature, but one that has been suggested as a feature for down the road. This could include locking and unlocking doors, setting an alarm, or even working with the in-car systems in conjunction with parental controls for teen drivers.
  • Key Replacement – Could the Apple Watch and the Mercedes-Benz Companion App even work as a replacement for a keyfob down the road? It’s certainly a possibility – although, as the watch requires an iPhone within range to use, you would still be required to carry something with you any time you went to use the vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz has stated they are looking into a number of ways to utilize the Apple Watch and Mercedes-Benz Companion app further. However, they insist that they won’t inflate the app, instead focusing it only for uses that are helpful and useful for all Mercedes owners.

Mercedes-Benz Companion will be launching this fall, and will be compatible with the current Mercedes-Benz C-Class and S-Class to start. Access to additional Mercedes-Benz models will come as time passes, depending on the demand of buyers and the technological advancements – so if you are an E-Class devotee or need the space and versatility of the G-Class crossover vehicles, you won’t have too long to wait.

Mercedes-Benz Companion is certainly an exciting development for Mercedes-Benz, but it is only one of the many technological advancements you can find in our latest vehicles. To see the use of this app when it debuts, plus the other entertainment and information advances available across the pantheon of Mercedes vehicles, stop in to Mercedes-Benz of Massapequa and talk to one of our knowledgeable, friendly sales staff. We are located at 101 Sunrise Highway in Amityville, New York – only minutes away from Islip, Babylon, Hempstead, and the rest of Long Island.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes-Benz has always been at the forefront of technology, whether it’s under the hood or in the passenger cabin. Adapting the latest technology to our vehicles has helped to make them some of the most cutting-edge, sought-after cars on the market. Every year, Mercedes-Benz continues to advance their vehicles, and every year, one vehicle in particular stands out from the pack.

Using Technology for Increased Safety

One area that has historically benefited greatly from evolutions in technology has been automotive safety. In the past, this often meant upgrading mechanical systems, but now, it is accomplished through the integration of advanced electronics and systems long reserved for highly-advanced projects.

  • Collision Prevention Assist Plus – Standard on the C-Class, this system uses radar to monitor traffic ahead of the vehicle. It can detect if the vehicle is approaching a slower vehicle in front too quickly, and will alert you to brake, or even start the braking process for you to reduce the impact of a potential collision.
  • Attention Assist – Sometimes the driver behind the wheel also needs to be watched. This system can detect if the driver is showing signs of drowsiness or driving patterns that indicate drowsiness, and will alert the driver to take action.
  • Active Blind Spot Assist – Radar sensors monitor the entire 360-degree area around a C-Class, and this system can warn you if it detects a vehicle that is in one of your blind spots. If you try to turn towards the vehicle, the system can apply brakes and can help to guide you back into your lane.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist – Much like Attention Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist, this system can detect when your C-Class is drifting slightly, and may be slowly drifting out of your lane. It will warn, and then can correct you if need be.

Advanced Entertainment and Connection

The key with today’s vehicles is to make everything easy to use and intuitive. Car buyers don’t want to waste time learning difficult, intricate systems – they want technology with a short learning curve that is nonetheless powerful and engaging.

The new C-Class uses an intuitive touchpad and a slimline display screen for entertainment, navigation, and vehicle options. Using finger gestures and animated displays, it allows the driver to quickly control a multitude of options. The available Head-Up Display puts information in your line of sight, so you don’t have to glance away from the road – a technology that got its start in fighter jets.

Technology has also helped to bring the world with you when you are in a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The mbrace suite connects your car with your computer and smartphone, using apps, remote vehicle features, and browser-assisted searching. This all-in-one package provides seamless integration, allowing you to be connected with your vehicle when you’re away from it, and connected with your life when you’re in your vehicle.

Adding Convenience

Mercedes-Benz knows that driving can sometimes be a chore, so they have applied technology to take some of the hassle out of everyday life. Active Parking Assist, for instance, helps to end the question of whether a space is too small for you to parallel park. Using radar, it can determine if the space is big enough for the C-Class, and then it can even assist in the parking of the vehicle. Similarly, Advanced Access Systems mean you don’t have to put down your packages to dig through your purse or pockets for your keys – the C-Class can detect the presence of the key, and the doors will open with a slight tug on the door handles.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class shows off the latest technology in a stunning fashion. It’s part of the reason why the car has been named the 2015 World Car of the Year – and it’s made the C-Class a head-turner at Mercedes-Benz of Massapequa. Stop by our location at 101 Sunrise Highway in Amityville – only minutes from Babylon, Hempstead and Freeport – and see the latest C-Class and other Mercedes-Benz models.
